It's hard to believe we have been in school for nearly one month! We experienced some extreme heat the first few days of school, which kept us inside for recess. Luckily students had some awesome activities to keep them busy, thanks to our amazing PTO who donated items for us to use when the weather keeps us inside!

We are celebrating Grandparents Day this Friday, September 15th from 1-3pm. Join us for an afternoon of fun!

Is this what you picture when you think of professional development for teachers? Our staff has been hard at work preparing for the new school year! We are excited to have students back in the building this week. Reminder: Open house is tonight from 5:30-6:30pm! First day of school for kindergarten through sixth grade students is Wednesday, August 23rd! School will dismiss at 1:30pm on Wednesday, August 23rd and Thursday, August 24th. It's going to be a great year!

Open House is Monday, August 21st from 5:30-6:30pm. Come see your classroom, find your locker and say hello to your teacher!

Did you graduate from Delwood High School or do you know someone who did? If the answer is yes, don't miss the opportunity to order some Delwood Alumni gear. The web store opens today and runs through August 1st. Order some gear and wear it to the Delwood All-Year Reunion, which will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2023! Proceeds will benefit the Delwood PTO.

Online registration for the 2023-2024 school year is open! Emails were sent to families yesterday with registration information and instructions. If you have any questions, please call the school at 563-674-4164.

Jenna Stevens with Ag in the Classroom visited Delwood last week. Our fifth grade students worked on developing drink flavors. This team developed the winning combination for a new drink flavor! Natalie helped come up with the name. They called it “Bluelicious”!

Our second grade students spent the morning at Camp Read-A-Lot!

Our kindergarten, first and second grade classes went to the Maquoketa Library to learn about their summer reading program this week. They also went to Little Bear Park, where they had lunch and spent some time playing!

Our three year old preschool students have been enjoying some camping activities in their classroom. They have gone fishing, grilled some food, built a campfire and roasted marshmallows. They have also enjoyed sleeping in the tent during rest time!

Our fifth and sixth grade students went to Chicago last week. They visited the Brookfield Zoo and the Museum of Science and Industry.

There's nothing better than ice cream on a hot day! Our first grade class enjoyed making and eating ice cream today!

The 2nd grade class put on their safety goggles and became "mad scientists" in STEM this past week. Following the scientific method, they defined a question, made predictions, conducted an experiment, made observations, and drew conclusions. Judging from their expressions, they may have been a bit surprised that this crazy, fun experiment was done using common household items.

Due to a scheduling conflict the Delwood May School Board Meeting has been moved from 5/15/23 to 5/16/23 at 5:30 pm. Thank you.

First grade took advantage of the beautiful weather during media class yesterday and enjoyed reading outside.

Rain earlier today meant inside recess. Thanks to our amazing PTO, we have an amazing array of new activities and games for our students to enjoy when the weather keeps us inside!

Three of our third grade students competed in Battle of the Books last week. They finished in third place!

Our first and second grade classes had an amazing field trip to Eden Valley this week! They started the day with a hike of the trails where they learned about several different flowering plants and how to spot poison ivy! Students enjoyed the look out tower and the swinging bridge. They also toured the Nature Center, where they saw live animals.. Students learned about all 5 animal groups and even got to see a real hawk! They spent time at the park, played nature games and made leaf rubs! Clinton County Conservation delivered an amazing experience for our students!
